Welcome to a lesson on

Dynamics

Dynamics are the way a composer tells a performer how loud or soft the music should be.  Once you learn the six main dynamic markings, you will be able to know the volume in any music from anywhere in the world because dynamic marks are universal.

The symbols are based in Italian.  You will first learn the symbol and the Italian term.  Then you will translate the Italian term to an English term.  Finally, you will interpret a symbol's meaning.

First, listen to the terms below.  Next, play the matching game called "Dynamic Markings in Music."  After that take the test, "Dynamic Marks and Meaning" and try to score 6 out of 6.

For an extra challenge, click on the "Welcome to Speller" square and type the Italian dynamic you hear the computer voice say. Hint* a description of what the word means will be on the screen.
